Sanremo - Italy

Description

The Mayor of Netanya, Miriam Fierberg-Ikar, as well as the Mayor of San Remo in Italy, Alberto Biancheri, signed on June 15, 2022 a cooperation agreement in the field of culture and tourism between the two cities.

The relationship with the city of San Remo began with the initiative of Dr. Dror Idar, the Israeli ambassador to Italy, who contributed a lot to this and engaged the Mayor in the issue, emphasizing the importance of the friendship between the cities.

In this framework, the Mayor led to the establishment of San Remo Square in the Ben Gurion area, inaugurated in a ceremony that took place in April 2021.

In a solemn and moving ceremony held in San Remo, Netanya signed a twin city alliance with the city of San Remo, which at the time hosted the San Remo Conference, one of the most important conferences held.

In 1920 the San Remo conference was signed up, which laid the foundation for the Balfour Declaration and the establishment of the State of Israel.

San Remo is a city in western Liguria, in Northwestern Italy. It is known as a prominent tourist destination on the Italian Riviera. The city hosts various notable cultural events every year, most notably the San Ramozzi Rally Festival, as well as a competition in the

bicycle Milan-San Remo competition.
