The Deputy Mayor of Netanya, Ephraim Bolmesh, as well as the Mayor of Peja, Kosovo, Gazmend Muhaxheri – signed on Thursday, December 8, 2022, an agreement for a declaration of intent, cooperation and fostering relations between the two cities – this with the aim of creating cultural, business and human bridges between the two cities .
The initiative for a twin city alliance between Netanya and Peja came from the head of foreign relations of the Republic of Kosovo in Israel, Ms. Ines Damiri.
Peja (Pec) is a city in the northwest of Kosovo, at the foot of the Cursed Mountains and the Rogova Canyon. Although there are several places worth visiting within the city, most visitors come there to make landscape tours and enjoy the nature around it. Whether it is the Cursed Mountains, Rogova Canyon located just to the west of it, or the White Hadrin waterfall, and the Radatz Cave, just a short drive north of it. Apart from the nature in which it is surrounded, the city of Peja is also famous for “Peja beer” produced in the city, which you cannot miss during a visit to Kosovo, short or long.
In the city of Peja itself there are about 50,000 thousand inhabitants, and a similar number in the rest of the district. Traditionally, the city is known as a relatively rich city. The population of the district is particularly diverse, and it has, alongside the Albanian majority, a number of Serbian enclaves as well as a fairly large concentration of Bosniaks.
The signing ceremony was held in the presence of the ambassador of Kosovo in Israel, the ambassador of Israel in Kosovo, a minister in the government of Kosovo and of course the mayor of Peja (the first agreement signed between a city in Kosovo and a city in Israel).
