Relations between Netanya and Xiamen began in 2007 and have continued uninterrupted ever since.
In 2015, the two cities signed a Letter of Intent to establish friendly relations. On 18 January 2022, the Sister City Agreement between Netanya and Xiamen was signed online by Miriam Fierberg-Ikar, Mayor of Netanya, and Huang Wenhui, Mayor of Xiamen.
The signing ceremony was held in the presence of Zhuang Rongliang, Vice Mayor of Xiamen; Li Xiaoping, Director General of the Xiamen Municipal Foreign Affairs Office; Lin Na, Vice President of the Xiamen People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries; Wang Yongjun, Political Counsellor of the Embassy of China in Israel; Peleg Lewi, Consul General of Israel in Guangzhou; Carmel Halevy, Vice Consul General; and Bosmat Baruch, Cultural Counsellor at the Embassy of Israel in China.
Xiamen is a port city in Fujian Province and is considered one of the leading economic centers in southeastern China. The city has a population of approximately 5.4 million.
Over the years, the two cities have exchanged official delegations, including participation in the Xiamen International Tourism Fair. Cooperation between Netanya and Xiamen focuses on tourism, the economy, business, and strengthening the friendship between the two cities.
