A Twin City agreement was signed on 27/7/87 by Mayor Yoel Elroy.
Gold Coast is a city spread alongside 57 km of golden coasts and has been the fascination for explorers throughout the ages. Its cultural atmosphere is unique and it is a center of tourism- especially surfing tourists.
In the late 50s and 60s the city rapidly developed as a popular tourist attraction. It became a preferred vacation destination, and most of all Coolangatta, a suburb in the southernmost part of the city which offers attractive accommodations, motels and resorts built for leisure.
In 2007 the city hosted a population of 527,660 residents.
