The Twin City Agreement between Netanya and Bournemouth was signed on 24 October 1995 by Zvi Poleg, Mayor of Netanya, and Pamela I. Harris, Mayor of Bournemouth.
Bournemouth is a coastal town in southern England, in the county of Dorset (now part of the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole unitary authority). The town has a population of approximately 190,000 and forms part of the South East Dorset conurbation, which is home to more than 500,000 residents.
Bournemouth was founded in 1810 by Lewis Tregonwell and developed during the 19th century into one of Britain’s leading seaside resorts, particularly following the arrival of the railway. Today, it combines tourism, commerce, higher education, and creative industries, serving as an important regional center in southern England.
Bournemouth is renowned for its 11 kilometres of sandy beaches, its scenic promenade, extensive public gardens, and the Bournemouth Pier, which attract millions of visitors every year. The town hosts international festivals, cultural and sporting events, and is a popular destination for both domestic and international tourism.
The city is home to Bournemouth University, internationally recognized for its programs in media, film, animation, health sciences, and business, as well as numerous cultural institutions, theatres, galleries, and arts centers.
Since the signing of the Twin City Agreement, Netanya and Bournemouth have maintained close ties and cooperation in the fields of culture, education, community affairs, and local government through exchanges of delegations and joint initiatives.
