Miriam Fierberg-Ikar, Mayor of Netanya, and Sheng Lei, Mayor of Changzhou, China, signed a Sister City Agreement between the two cities on Monday, 24 April 2023.
The signing ceremony was attended by the mayors, deputy mayors, and senior municipal officials from Changzhou responsible for commerce, finance, science, and foreign affairs, as well as representatives of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Israel and a delegation of Chinese businesswomen.
Changzhou is a city in China located near the Yangtze River, with a population of more than five million.
Changzhou is home to the China–Israel Changzhou Innovation Park (CICP). Cooperation with the Innovation Park is included in the Three-Year Action Plan signed in January 2022 as part of the activities of the Joint Committee on Innovation Cooperation (JCIC) between Israel and China. Located in Jiangsu Province, one of China’s wealthiest provinces, Changzhou is committed at both the national and provincial levels to promoting technological development and strengthening cooperation with Israel in the fields of economy, academia – including Ben-Gurion University of the Negev – and municipal relations.
