The Twin City Agreement between Netanya and the Gold Coast was signed on 27 July 1987 by Yoel Elroi, Mayor of Netanya, and Dennis Pie, Mayor of the Gold Coast.
The Gold Coast is the second-largest city in the Australian state of Queensland and the sixth-largest city in Australia. The city has a population of approximately 650,000 and is one of the country’s fastest-growing urban centers.
Stretching along approximately 57 kilometres of coastline on the Pacific Ocean, the Gold Coast is one of Australia’s premier tourist destinations. The city is renowned for its golden beaches, world-class surfing, theme parks, nature reserves, and pleasant subtropical climate throughout most of the year.
In addition to being a major international tourism hub, the Gold Coast is an important center for innovation, healthcare, education, sport, and technology. The city is home to leading institutions, including Bond University and Griffith University, and regularly hosts international sporting and cultural events.
Among the city’s best-known districts are Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach, Burleigh Heads, and Coolangatta, all of which attract millions of visitors from around the world each year.
Since the signing of the Twin City Agreement, Netanya and the Gold Coast have maintained close ties and cooperation in the fields of local government, tourism, education, culture, and innovation, while promoting exchanges of delegations and joint initiatives between the two cities.
