The Sister City Agreement between Netanya and Sunny Isles Beach was signed on 26 April 2006 by Miriam Fierberg-Ikar, Mayor of Netanya, and Norman S. Edelcup, Mayor of Sunny Isles Beach.
Sunny Isles Beach is a coastal city in Miami-Dade County, Florida, USA, located between the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway, just north of Miami Beach. The city has a population of approximately 22,000.
Stretching along approximately 4 km (2.5 miles) of Atlantic coastline, Sunny Isles Beach is considered one of South Florida’s premier luxury resort destinations. Its skyline is characterized by high-rise residential towers and luxury hotels, and the city offers beautiful beaches, parks, promenades, restaurants, water sports, and a wide variety of tourist attractions. Hundreds of thousands of visitors from around the world come to the city each year.
Sunny Isles Beach is well known for its multicultural population, which includes a large Russian-speaking community and many immigrants from the former Soviet Union, alongside sizeable Jewish and other international communities, contributing to the city’s unique character.
The initiative to establish the sister-city relationship between Netanya and Sunny Isles Beach began in 2005 through the joint efforts of both municipalities and culminated in the signing of the agreement in 2006. Since then, the two cities have maintained close ties and cooperation in the fields of local government, tourism, culture, and community, supported by the strong connections between the Jewish and Israeli community in Sunny Isles Beach and the city of Netanya.
