The Twin City Agreement between Netanya and Como was signed on 31 October 2004 by Emanuele Leonti, Deputy Mayor of Como, and Ephraim Bulmash, Netanya City Council Member responsible for Tourism and Foreign Relations.
The city of Como is located on the shores of Lake Como and is considered the capital of the surrounding region. The lake, also known as Lake Lario, is situated in the Lombardy region of northern Italy and covers an area of approximately 146 km², making it the third-largest lake in Italy. Its distinctive shape resembles an inverted letter “Y”. At the junction of its three branches lie the towns of Bellagio, Menaggio, and Varenna.
Around the 1st century BCE, the area of Como was under Roman rule. Throughout its history, the city was conquered by neighboring Milan and later by the Austrians. It was finally liberated in 1859, when Giuseppe Garibaldi freed the city from Austrian rule and contributed to the reunification of Italy under the House of Savoy.
