National Monument Commemorating the victory of the Red Army over Nazi Germany

Netanya Municipality in conjunction with the Prime Minister’s Office, United Israel Appeal and the Russian Jewish Congress, has erected the National Monument Commemorating the Victory of the Red Army over Nazi Germany on the city’s sea shores.
The memorial is the embodiment of the design of three acclaimed artists: Salavat Scherbakov, Vasiliy Perfiliev and Michail Naroditsky, who won the international competition run by the United Israel Appeal.

The site of the memorialHistory and memory of the Jewish people

The National Memorial was erected in the middle of Netanya’s central memorial site, the place dearest to our hearts, where the soldiers from Netanya who lost their lives defending the State of Israel and the city are commemorated and where episodes of Israel’s courageous rebirth following the Holocaust are depicted.

Wherever we go from this memorial, we will find all of the components of the Jewish Holocaust and the rebirth of the Jewish People, which was paved in the blood of our dear ones, among the most courageous of our nation.

To the south of the memorial is Beit Yad Labanim, where we commemorate fallen IDF soldiers from Netanya, who gave their lives while serving in the IDF.

Next to it, is the National Ordinance Corps Memorial, the corps adopted by Netanya, designed to serve as the center for memorial and educational activities commemorating the heritage of the corps, a source of inspiration and strength for continued progress and advancement.

To the east is the Alexandroni Brigade Memorial, which was erected at the site of the brigade’s headquarters during the War of Independence.

To the southeast of the new memorial is the Victims of Acts of Terror Memorial, which commemorates the memory of terror victims – terror that hit Netanya residents who went to Jerusalem immediately following the resolution of the UN General Assembly on the partition and continued through the despicable waves of terror that struck Netanya years after the establishment of the State.

To the west, we have the lovely and historic coastline of Netanya, which was strategic in the organized illegal immigration to Eretz Israel, which began as the Nazis took power.

In small, old and rickety boats, 17,000 immigrants, Jewish refugees, traveled in 25 boats to reach the shores of Israel. 512 refugees on the Pancho, who fled Slovakia in 1940 in the face of the war, are commemorated with the nearby memorial, and just a short walk away is a street that commemorates the immigrant ship, Exodus.

As we unveil the National Monument Commemorating the Victory of the Red Army over Nazi Germany, we add an important chapter in the history of the Jewish people and all of mankind.
