Old-time Netanya residents will surely always remember the small stadium fondly known as HaKufsa – the Box, but since 2012, Netanya has a new, modern stadium that is among the top ten beautiful stadiums in Europe. The stadium has approximately 14,000 seats and 17 luxury box seats. The structure is oval-shaped and was planned so that every spectator can have an optimal view from any seat in the stands. In addition to the high-quality viewing experience, both for sports events and cultural events, the stadium features commercial areas with a variety of food stands, serving the public conveniently and comfortably.
The stadium’s trademark is two metal beams which have been erected on the stands. At night, people driving on the Coastal Highway adjacent to the stadium are treated to a show of alternating lights emitted from the two beams.
The very first game at the stadium was held on November 4, 2012, and Maccabi Netanya beat Hapoel Tel Aviv 2-1. Ahmed Saba’a, a long-time Maccabi Netanya player, was the first to score a goal in the new stadium. Before the opening game, Netanya’s mayor, Miriam Feirberg Ikar, cut the ribbon and officially inaugurated the new stadium.
