We are now at a vantage point overlooking one of Netanya’s prominent beaches – Herzl Beach. It features an elevator that descends to the beach, which is of great assistance to families and people with disabilities. To make the beach accessible to the handicapped, the municipality created an entire system of access routes and equipped the lifeguard stations with amphibious wheelchairs so that everyone can enjoy bathing in the sea.
Netanya has one of the longest coastlines in the country, stretching across 13.5 kilometers with nine official beaches, including a religious beach with separate sections for men and women – Sanz beach. Netanya’s beaches are all Blue Flag beaches, meaning that they meet strict international requirements for education and information, water quality, safety and services and environmental conditions.
On the beaches, visitors can enjoy a variety of services, leisure and entertainment activities , and restaurants.
There is also a wide selection of water and sports activities, such as surfing, kitesurfing, jet skiing, beach volleyball, beach football, water sports, exercise equipment on the beach and, of course, a site for paragliding.
Netanya’s beaches were also historically important to the developing State of Israel, as they were one of the main destinations of the boats of clandestine immigrants during the pre-State era. The Jews who arrived in these boats often spent their first night in Israel right next to the beach, in the historic Esther Theater building.
