February 9th, we celebrate one of the most beautiful holidays – Tu B’Shvat, the New Year for trees. It symbolizes the end of a short Israeli winter and the awakening of trees. In Israel, in Tu B’Shvat, thousands of people come with young seedlings to places where there are no trees. This is how our country, which was a desert, is landscaped, and every Israeli from early childhood takes part in this.
For a meal in TuB’shvat, dishes are usually prepared from the seven main “fruits” mentioned in the Torah – wheat, barley, grapes, figs, pomegranate, olives and dates. Also eat fruits and nuts, oranges, grapefruits, plums and apricots.
Happy Tu B’Shvat!
